Green Moon Anise Flavoured Vodka Review

-45% abv, .75 litre

-Country of Origin: France ( yet sold only in US)

There are some products that should never see the light of day. The annoying chap at the office whose awkward suggestions are quickly dismissed during meetings? Yeah, I guess someone actually listened to him for once and created this mess.

It takes ARCTIC temps to louche, and even then it is not good. Green Moon actually wasn’t quite as awful as I had imagined, as it is a bit more than simply adding anise flavouring to vodka, there are in fact other herbs in play, but it is muted and unbalanced enough that I could not see myself drinking it again. Bears little resemblance to any absinthe I’ve ever had. Louched as an absinthe, it is anise dominant, petite wormwood is there, but lost. Over ice it tastes even worse, as star anise beats the poop out of everything else. Boozy with a soapy kick, it made me regurgitate involuntarily.

OVERALL RATING: POOR. Not just abysmal, but incredibly misleading and overpriced for what it is (read: not absinthe). Huh. Reminds me of something else posing as absinthe that was reviewed recently…
